| Proceedings of press meet at Ginning Training Centre of CIRCOT, Nagpur on 8th Aug 2011 |

A press meet was organized jointly by Central Institute for Research on Cotton Technology (CIRCOT) and India News Communications Ltd, Noida at Ginning Training Centre of CIRCOT, Nagpur under the chairmanship of Dr.P.G.Patil, Principal Scientist & Head TTD, CIRCOT. The press meet was chaired by Dr.P.G.Patil, Principal Scientist & Head TTD, Mr.R.M.Gurjar, Principal Scientist & Head CBPD, Dr.N.Shanmugam Sr.Scientist & CPI of ZTM-BPD Unit. Dr.P.G.Patil briefed about training, testing facilities, services offered by CIRCOT and entrepreneurship development in Ginning. Dr.P.G.Patil listed out the various achievements of CIRCOT. He informed CIRCOT is the only institute in the country engaged in R&D in ginning and allied processing of cotton. In addition, the institute is in the forefront of developing technologies in the areas of textile-processing, byproducts and waste utilization. The institute is accredited by NABL (ISO-17025) and is a referral laboratory for testing of textiles. He also told the Ginning Training Centre (GTC) at Nagpur is the only centre in whole Asia which imparts specialized training in roller ginning technology and has all the infrastructural facilities necessary for training including ultra-modern ginning machines besides fibre testing equipment and microspinning unit. Mr.R.M Gurjar explained about Particle board manufacturing technology, collection logistics for cotton stalks, chemical and biochemical processing. He told that cotton stalk even today is not put to proper industrial use, except as domestic fuel, rest is burnt in field. Studies at CIRCOT have shown that cotton stalk is an ideal raw material for preparing particle boards, binderless boards, pulp and paper for kraft paper and preparation of CFB boxes. To further inculcate the spirit of change, Mr.R.M Gurjar informed that the CIRCOT process of manufacturing particle board is technically feasible and economically viable.After the press meet an exhibition was arranged at the GTC- Nagpur where, all the post harvest technologies, products of CIRCOT were displayed and some of the technologies were also demonstrated by the concerned scientist to the participants. In addition to this GTC-Nagpur arranged a visit to the Ginning plant, scientific seed crushing and one TPD particle board plant. The participants and industry acknowledged and appreciated the valuable contributions made by CIRCOT. Dr.P.G.Patil made an announcement about a training programme on “Awareness of CIRCOT Technologies and Services” that will be organized by CIRCOT, Mumbai in the month of October 2011.
