Home Technologies Technology for Synthesis of Zinc Oxide Nanoparticles
Technology for Synthesis of Zinc Oxide Nanoparticles PDF Print E-mail

Detailed description of the technology:

Zinc oxide nanoparticles are prepared by wet chemical process using starch as stabilizing agent.  Amount of starch in ZnO nanoparticles as analyzed by TGA = 27%. Size of the ZnO nanoparticles by XRD analysis = 26  11 nm (Figure 1). This was confirmed by Transmission electron microscopic analysis (Figure 2).. The cotton fabrics coated with zinc oxide nanoparticles exhibits excellent antibacterial activity (>99%) against the test organisms Staphylococcus aureus and Klebsiella pneumoniae under assay conditions based on the tests performed as per AATCC Test Method 100-2004. Nano-ZnO powder was stored in glass / polythene and stored in UV / high RH / high temperature (45°C) for 300 h and analyzed for antibacterial activity. In all cases, the antibacterial activity (>99%) was maintained even after exposure to harsh conditions in both containers.A scale up trial was carried out for the preparation of 500 g nano-ZnO in a single batch. Also, the effluent during preparation was analyzed for COD, BOD, pH and zinc content. Except zinc content, all other parameters are within the permissible limits.

Process involved : Wet Chemical Process

Application :

  • To impart antibacterial and UV-protection properties on various textile materials.
  • To provide UV-protection in sun-cream and other protecting agents.
  • To provide antibacterial activity in various medical and military textiles.

Target customer : Chemical companies, Textile axillaries, Paints, Medical textiles and others.

Cost and Manpower : Depend on scale of production, it varies.
Space requirement : Room to accommodate stirrer, centrifuge, and freeze drier
