Home Technologies Technology for Variable Speed Double Roller Gins
Technology for Variable Speed Double Roller Gins PDF Print E-mail

INTRODUCTION:
Variable Speed Double Roller Gins The productivity of a double roller gin having normal roller length used for ginning of long and extra long staple cottons is on an average 40-45 kg lint in one hour. Increasing productivity is one of the basic requirements not only to enhance the ginning efficiency but also to reduce ginning cost. Increase in productivity is currently achieved by increasing the length of the DIR with concomitant increase in power cost. Alternately, the two most important parts of the DR gin, viz, roller and beater can be independently controlled to increase the ginning efficiency and productivity per unit length of the roller.

CIRCOT Modification:
CIRCOT has come up with an unique model of double roller gin which is a modified and improved version of the conventional double roller gin. This gin christened as VS Gin is a real breakthrough in gin design to increase productivity.

In VS Gin, the speeds of the roller and beater can be easily, accurately and independently adjusted based on the staple length and the type of cotton to be ginned which otherwise is not possible in the conventional DR gin. Different speed ratios are available in this gin with appropriate combinations of pulleys of various diameter fixed on to the shaft of the roller and beater.

The gearbox is suitably modified to have the roller and beater drives de-linked and driven independent of each other. The two drives of the VS Gin permit ample flexibility to give any desired speed to the roller and beater. This provision is not possible in any of the existing DR gins as the drives of the roller and beater are linked to each other, thereby keeping the speed ratio constant at 100:1000(1:10) for all types of cotton. The speed ratios 150:1000 for roller to beater is found to be the suitable for long staple cottons while 125:1000 for medium staple.

Large scale ginning trials conducted with VS Gin (keeping appropriate speed ratios) on various Indian cottons having staple length ranging from 18mm (Bengal Desi) to 34mm (DCH-32), have shown that lint out-turn and ginning rate increased by 70 to 140% over the conventional machine without affecting any of the fibre quality parameters. As against the gin output of 45 kg/h in conventional gins, VS Gin is capable of producing ginned lint to the extent of 65 kg/h to 80 kg/h depending on the type of cotton.

Short staple cottons could be successfully ginned with increased productivity by maintaining the speed ratios of 100:750 for roller and beater in the VS gin which otherwise would have been difficult to process in conventional gin.

CIRCOT has transferred this technology to M/S U.D.Patel & Co. Mumbal for manufacturing the VS Gins. During the last three years about 50 units have been installed in various ginning factories
